Sailing
I was introduced to sailing when I was a teenager in Suffolk, UK. Those days I’d end the day blue with cold but it never put me off. Many years later I got my Day Skipper’s ticket but I’d learnt my lesson, I did the course in Spain and didn’t turn blue.
Sailing boats have their unique appeal, it doesn’t matter what size they are. The engine is switched off and you’re using nature to get from A to B. The elements become a part of you; you notice incremental differences in the wind strength and direction, the size of the waves, the shape of the clouds, the beauty of an unsullied starry sky, the phosphorescence of the dolphins swimming under your hull at night.
Whenever I see a sail out on the horizon I always wonder where they’re off to, where they’ve been. I’m grateful for all I’ve experienced sailing but I’m ever so slightly envious and want to be out there on that boat.
